  Born again or born from above

  last year i was at the memorial and the speaker was saying something about how the phrase born again was actually a mistake and it should say born from above.

  jesus was actually referring to those with a heavenly hope.

  last night i was flipping the channels and there is a religious program talking about being born again.

  From my understanding all JWs were all considered "born again" and going to heaven until the numbers grew to more than their very limiting and short sighted number of 144,000 and then "new light" had to be invented to account for the rising numbers of those selling their literature and still recruiting more but no Armageddon and where would these go if heavenly places were already taken.

  i'm sure many others noted in yesterday's news feeds, that scientists deciphering the dna of the skeleton remains of a man thought to have died some 10,000 years ago in the south of england, have presented him as:.

  as blue-eyed (now that's quite english) but as dark skinned.

  Using Watchtowers Own Reasoning Against Them RE: The Governing Body

  something occurred to me today.

  quite randomly as i was working away at my desk i remembered an illustration from the bible teach book in which satan claimed he knew better than jehovah about ruling mankind.

  That illustration always bothered me.

  How many children woud need to die before the teacher stepped in and stopped the "experiment" and deemed it a fail?

  If God was really settling an argument about letting humans rule themsves then he shouldn't have interfered with a flood. (I know it didnt happen but bear with).

  What if one of those who drowned was the one person who could have risen up to rule fairly, wisely and unite all mankind to end injustice, poverty and war. God killed them.

  If God reads hearts so well and he wouldn't have drowned this one person why save Noah (and drown innocent animals) which achieved diddly squat?

  If this was really all true the first death (Abel) should have been the end of the experiment.

  What was your trigger to waking up ?

  good afternoon , .

  i wanted to ask everyone here , what was your trigger to waking up ?

  i have been waking up for a long time , but in looking back it’s hard for me to look at one event and say “ ah ha “ , i think mine is like a slow leak - like a crack in a damn - and then hold on , because after that it’s just a flood of information.

  Injustice for me too and not just one.

  I was counselled by an elder to only offer bible studies to the sub Saharan refugees as offering more (food and clothing) could bring them into the truth for the wrong reasons. My daughter's and I used to sneak out under cover of darkness and take them stuff.

  Buying a business from an elder and his wife and discovering they paid no tax in 10 years on the business or car and employed illegal immigrants off the cards.

  A new KH bought over 60kms (round trip) from the original hall and majority of us having to travel further. All the elders bought (We had 3) brand new cheap property in a northern town and wanted the KH nearer leaving the rest of us to travel an hour away to meetings instead of 10 minutes. An elder from another congregation told me they falsified the figures to get bethel approval.

  My daughter was 2 when they knocked on my door telling me she probably wouldnt start school. Shes a grandmother now.

  Restudying the revelation book that had to be "updated".

  The days text one morning was Expectation postponed was making the heart sick. I was sick of waiting and ventured on to my first apostate site. That was 2008. I went to my last meeting memorial 2009.

  The refugee situation hurt me so bad I saw the religion in a new light and I started missing meetings. I became ill and was hospitalised and even tho most now had to pass my house to get to meetings (not the elders tho) none had time to call for coffee and entrusted my worldly neighbours to cook and administer my meds. Where was the love? Moved countries and faded.

  Unsuspecting witnesses at the door have no idea like yesterday and I mentioned shunning. They denied they shun. I asked them.if they lied. They said no of course not so I said when someone is announced as no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses you speak to them just the same as you did before the announcement then. They walked away.

  Can you top this example of JW corruption?

  if you are a former jw elder, can you share any examples of corruption which you personally witnessed that were kept secret from the congregation?

  following is an account from a longtime elder named tommy who recently disassociated.. the minor daughter of a presiding elder in a west texas congregation committed fornication with a 19-year old baptized witness in her father’s home.

  the daughter had to confess to a judicial committee which included the aforementioned tommy.

  I bought the business I had been working at for a year which had been going about 10 years and was run by an elder and his wife.

  When I went to submit my quarterly tax returns I discovered the business had never paid tax before as it was being run illegally and without the correct paperwork.

  I went to another elder with "my problem" and was told "It's very difficult to run a business legally in Spain"

  One of many aha moments prior to my exit.

  Why I get out of bed every morning.

  because someone needs my help.. as a jw -- you can relate -- i truly believed that what everyone really needed was the kingdom hope and its eventual reality.

  you know, the hope that does not lead to disappointment.

  of course, if anyone needed practical help with a task or getting through some difficulty, most of us realized that was part of being a helpful and caring friend (or family member).. at nearly seventy years of age -- no, i didn't enter the promised kingdom in my healthful and vibrant youth -- my getting out of bed isn't so bad.

  What Do You Do if the Household Does Not Celebrate?

  it is christmas morning ....the weather outside looks cold grey and dismal (typical britain in winter ) the house is quiet as my wife gets on with something.

  .... the street is silent, as dead as the grave.

  the tv is full of the purile nonsense that fills airtime this time of year .

  I used to feel like that but within a household celebrating xmas. I hated it so when JWs came knocking no longer being forced to endure it was a bonus.

  Now out and atheist it has no religious meaning at all and I give all the outward appearance of celebrating but inside its just another day with a bigger meal and more alcohol and more vegging out.

  You can do Xmas in your head however way you want and create a place in your mind where everyone you love celebrates and you get all the presents you want. No financial limits either.
